Arundel wins first field hockey title; Severna Park wins titles in field hockey and cross country

Several local high schools brought home state championships on Saturday.

Arundel High School defeated River Hill 2-1 to win the school’s first-ever 3A field hockey state title. What makes their season even more remarkable is the fact that Arundel started the season by losing their first six games before winning 11 of 13 to finish out the season.

Severna Park field hockey shut out Winston Churchill High School 2-0 in the 4A finals to claim their record-extending 25th state title. The next closest school to Severna Park in terms of state titles is Pocomoke who won their 20th earlier in the day.

And Severna Park’s Boys Cross Country team claimed their fourth consecutive state title, as their top five runners all finished in the top 20.
