Strawn Concedes. Buckley To Serve Second Term as Annapolis Mayor

Republican Steven Strawn conceded the mayoral election to Democrat incumbent Gavin Buckley in the City of Annapolis.   In a statement released last night, the mayor said,

“Earlier this evening, I received a gracious concession call from Steven Strawn, my Republican challenger for the Mayor’s race. I thank Steven for his willingness to step forward to serve. It is now time for our community to come together to best serve the needs of the residents of our wonderful City of Annapolis. “I thank the voters for entrusting me to lead the City in a second term. I look forward to serving over the next four years and turning today’s challenges into tomorrow’s successes.”

Here are the numbers after yesterday’s canvas of the mail-in ballots received in the City drop boxes or delivered by mail through October 28, plus the in-person votes of Tuesday, November 2, 2021:

Mayor Buckley 4,206, Steven Strawn 1,712

For all the contested wards the incumbent candidates all have more votes than their challengers of either the opposite party or those who were written in on the ballots. They include Sheila Finlayson, Brooks Schandelmeier, Dejuan Gay, and Ross Arnett.

In Ward 2 democrat Karma O’Neill received 423 paper votes in yesterday’s ballot count of paper ballots….to Republican Challenge Shoot Gibbson’s 254 votes. She now leads in the race for that ward by a vote count of 571 to 488.

One more canvas of Votes is scheduled to occur of paper ballots sent to the Board of Supervisors of the Elections between October 29 and this past Tuesday. That canvas will happened this coming Tuesday, November 9th.  After that canvass, the election tally will be final and certified.
