Queen Anne’s County Health Officer Says Census Undercounted Blacks and Hispanics in County

Centerville, MD (10-13-2021) — Queen Anne’s Health Officer Dr. Joseph Ciotola told county councilmen that the U.S. Census undercounted the black and Hispanic population in the eastern shore County. Dr. Ciotola says that he and his staff treat and work with more members of the minority community than the count indicates. He said that he’s concern because he depends on the data to calculate the metrics connected to the Covid19 pandemic. The data also helps determine plans for community outreach.

Dr. Ciotola presented his analysis of 2020 U-S Census Data which also highlighted his concern about the growing population of those who will be moving into senior and retirement facilities and communities in coming years. He says that there is a paucity of healthcare workers in medical and behavior sciences in the county.
