Police: Officers kill person in traffic stop shoot out

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say officers fatally shot a person who fired on officers during a traffic stop in Silver Spring. News outlets report that police said officers stopped a white Mercedes Benz early Wednesday that matched the description of a vehicle linked to a shooting about a half mile away.

Police Chief Marcus Jones says the person got out and fired on officers and they returned fire. Jones says the person was struck and has died. None of the four officers involved was wounded, but Jones says they have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
