Maryland resumes reporting COVID-19 deaths after cyberattack

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland officials resumed reporting coronavirus deaths Tuesday after a more than three week interruption amid an apparent cyberattack, adding more than 400 deaths to the state’s tally. according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 data dashboard, at least 415 Marylanders died from COVID-19 between Dec. 4 and Tuesday bringing the state’s total to 11,437. Maryland also reported 6,574 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, while the number of hospitalized people grew by 112 to 1,826. The seven-day testing positivity rate grew more than 1% from a day earlier to 17.6%. Officials have said health department servers were taken offline to protect the network amid an apparent cyberattack on Dec. 4. Officials have said there’s no evidence any data was compromised.
