Congressman Brown Is Running to be Maryland’s Next Attorney General

Largo, MD (WNAV) Congressman Anthony Brown has made it official. A few days after Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh said he would NOT be running for a third term, Brown released a campaign video officially throwing his hat into the race. The Congressman whose district currently includes a large portion of Prince George’s County and Anne Arundel County.

Some excerpts from the  Brown Campaign:

…..I was raised by immigrant parents who instilled in me the value of service to others. My father was a doctor who treated patients in some of the poorest hospitals and neighborhoods near where I grew up, and I recognized the difference that my father and later myself could make in the lives of those who need a champion.
Throughout my years in public service, I have always been an advocate for equity and justice in Maryland and on Capitol Hill. I led the fight to repeal the death penalty in Maryland while Lieutenant Governor, as well as to decriminalize marijuana and give Marylanders a second chance. In the aftermath of the tragic murders at Sandy Hook, I worked with Governor O’Malley to enact one of the nation’s toughest gun safety laws that included stringent background checks and training requirements for gun sales, as well as a ban on assault rifles and large-capacity magazines. I worked with the General Assembly to expand protections for victims of domestic violence, abused and neglected children, and veterans whose mental and behavioral health needs were not being met. I have repeatedly fought to increase transparency, and accountability in policing, and to reform both our criminal and military justice systems.
As a lawyer, I’ve consistently defended the most vulnerable. I represented clients who have been victimized by sexual harassment, stood up for children in need of assistance, and the vulnerable who were unable to afford a lawyer in our criminal courts. I have taken on big tobacco and represented small businesses that have been undermined by large corporations.
In Congress, I’ve fought to strengthen our communities and act on our shared progressive values. I championed common-sense gun safety laws, like universal background checks, a ban on bump stocks, raising the age to purchase rifles, and ‘red flag’ laws to keep firearms away from those who might harm themselves or others. I introduced measures to fix our broken immigration system to make it more humane and just. And I’ve been a strong advocate of women’s right to make their own choices about their own bodies and healthcare.
I’ve passed measures out of the House of Representatives to expand protections for victims of domestic violence, expand access to the ballot for all voters, protect the health of the Chesapeake Bay, and ensure equality under the law for the LGBTQIA+ community.  I’m a lead sponsor on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Reform Act, landmark legislation to establish a comprehensive approach to hold police accountable and to change the culture of law enforcement by empowering our local communities, as well as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore the power of the Voting Rights Act. And when faced with Donald Trump’s lawless presidency, I didn’t back down and fought to protect our democracy.
I’ve fought to provide greater protections to our brave men and women who serve in our military by establishing a special inspector general to investigate racial disparities under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the presence of extremism in our Armed Forces.  I led the effort to remove the names, statues, and monuments of Confederate soldiers from military installations and properties, and to ensure that every servicemember can fully serve our nation regardless of race, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Despite the progress that has been made, too many barriers still exist for too many Marylanders — from health care and housing; to the impacts of our rapidly changing climate and education; to policing, and the criminal justice system.
I’m running for Attorney General to dismantle these barriers, help level the playing field, and to push for changes that will give every Marylander a fair shot to get ahead and ensure everyone plays by the same set of rules.

As the chief legal officer in Maryland, I’ll never stop working for you – to investigate problems and advocate for bold solutions.  I’ll fight for progress, fight for justice, and fight for all Marylanders.
During the next several weeks, I’ll be traveling the state, listening to you and other voters, and doing my level best to earn your support and your vote…..

Anthony G. Brown
