Car Jacker To Be Sentenced in Early January for Running Over Man in Motel 6 Parking Lot

Annapolis, MD (WNAV)– A man who the State’s Attorney viciously attacked and assaulted the victim in a Glen Burnie carjacking has been found guilty of first-degree attempted murder. Gerald “Jerry” Haigis was arrested after a man with bloody hair was found by Anne Arundel County police early on the morning of April 5, 2021. He reported that he was driving the convicted man to Baltimore to buy drugs. The two picked up a woman who got in the car. The defendant is said to have tried to strangle the man, who was in the driver’s seat of the car, with a rope. The victim got out of the car, tried to run, and was run over by  Haigis, more than one time.  State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitiess, in a statement, thanked the witness for coming forward. The case was prosecuted by assistant state’s attorney Carolynn Grammas. Haigis will be sentenced early next year.
