>>Thousands Without Power After Windy Sunday

 

(Baltimore, MD)  --  Thousands of electricity customers throughout Central Maryland remain without power this morning after Sunday's gusty winds brought down trees and power lines.  Crews have worked feverishly since yesterday afternoon when nearly 20-thousand were left in the dark.  Many customers have had their power restored but over six-thousand are still affected in the city and its surrounding counties.  Problems should subside quickly as winds are expected to be minimal today despite colder temps.  The winds caused Severna Park High School to close today after a power pole was downed due to the high winds. 

 

>>Presidential Candidates To Converge Upon Maryland Today

 

(Baltimore, MD)  --  Presidential candidates from both parties will be making campaign stops throughout Maryland today.  Senator Hillary Clinton is expected to tour the GM Hybrid plant in White Marsh, just a day after former President Bill Clinton made stops on her behalf in Catonsville and Dundalk.  Senator Barack Obama will hold an event at the Comcast Center in College Park this morning, and after a short ride up I-95, he'll appear at the First Mariner Arena this evening.  Meanwhile, Republican frontrunner John McCain will speak at a rally at the Annapolis Marriott.  Maryland voters head to the polls tomorrow.

>>Large Turnout Expected For Presidential Primaries

 

(Washington, DC)  --  A large turnout is expected for tomorrow's presidential primaries in Virginia, Maryland and the District.  Political analyst and University of Virginia professor Dr. Larry Sabato says people are excited to have the rare chance to help decide a presidential contest.  Virginia has an open primary.  Voters do not register by party, so people can chose to participate in either the Democratic or Republican contests, but not both.  DC has a closed primary, meaning people can only vote for candidates running in the party with which they are registered.  Maryland also has a closed primary.  Polls are open in Virginia from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.  In Maryland, you can vote from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  And in DC, polls are also open from 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. 

 

>>School Bus Crash

 

(Ingleside, MD)  --  A school bus driver is facing charges after a collision with a tractor-trailer on Friday.  A school bus carrying eleven Queen Anne's County public school students was being operated by 51-year-old Joyce Morris of Ingleside.  According to the "Star Democrat," Morris was traveling on Route-313 and tried to cross Route-19.  The bus was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by 56-year-old Joseph Williamson of Greensboro.  The Church Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded and tended to one student with a minor injury.  Morris is being charged with failure to yield the right of way.

 

>>Fire Ravaged Street To Reopen Soon

 

(Cambridge, MD)  --  Leaders in Cambridge are hoping that the 400 block of historic Race Street can re-open sometime this week.  Concrete barriers will likely line the sidewalk in front of the two antique stores that burned down in January.  Crews have worked through the weekend to stabilized the marred buildings by putting up support beams to stabilize the remaining facades.  The losses attributed to the heavily damaged buildings are estimated at one-point-five-million-dollars.  Northbound traffic is expected to re-open Tuesday. 

 

>>Stolen Car Used To Steal Another

 

(Easton, MD)  --  A stolen car was used in order to steal another in Easton.  Suspects used a 2004 Toyota Four-Runner stolen from Chances Automotive between January 31st and February 1st to break into Dornton Performance Thursday in Easton.  The suspects left the Four-Runner and stole a white 2000 Dodge Ram with Maryland Registration eight-seven-N-nine-three-eight.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Easton Police.

 

>>Infant Death Under Investigation

 

(Hurlock, MD)  --  Police are investigating the weekend death of an infant in Dorchester County.  EMS crews responded to a residence along Skinners Run Road in Hurlock Saturday for a one-month-old girl who was unresponsive.  The infant was taken to Dorchester General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  WBOC-TV 16 reports she was taken to Baltimore for an autopsy.  The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

 

>>Michelle Obama Visits Eastern Shore

 

(Princess Anne, MD)  --  Michelle Obama is making her second trip to Delmarva in less than a month.  The wife of presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama made an appearance in Wilmington, Delaware on January 31st.  She will speak at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Theater today.  Doors open at noon.  The program will begin at 12:45.  The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested.  Space will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Reservations can be made via the candidate's website.
